Crop for fuel?

Yesterday we visited a friend in the hospital. She is a God fearing farmer and believes it is a sin to use our crop to make fuel for our cars off it and that it will be a catch 22 in the end.
My answer was that it is certainly a matter of selfishness in view of billions of people who don´t know if and what they will get for food the next day and that God has given us the plants for food.
Genesis 1:29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.
In the end God will bring this world to it´s designated end to build a new one for His people and so I believe that all human efforts to save this world will be but a patchwork that by being pushed further and further at some point will just fall apart altogether.
Luke 5:36 He told them this parable: "No one tears a patch from a new garment and sews it on an old one. If he does, he will have torn the new garment, and the patch from the new will not match the old. 37 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the new wine will burst the skins, the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined.
Then all that is left will be God´s people who have put their faith in Jesus. They are the ones who will live forever in His presence.
I also told her I´ll research that further.
